CANCELED Holiday Parade & Party in the Park

Due to inclement weather, this year’s Holiday Parade and Party in the Park has, unfortunately, been canceled. We hope to see you next year!

Enjoy the City’s official holiday parade! We’ll start at Liberty Park Middle School, go down Liberty Parkway and loop through the Alston Meadows neighborhood, then go back up Liberty Parkway to end in the Liberty Park Sports Complex parking lot. The Party in the Park Celebration will be held at the softball fields this year and will kick off after the parade. There will be food trucks, music, moonwalks, vendor booths and a visit with Santa!

All camps will be held at Vestavia Hills Civic Center (1090 Montgomery Highway, 35216) unless otherwise noted.

>Christmas Art Camp. December 19-22, 2022

We’re dreaming of a crafty Christmas! Register today for the holiday-themed children’s Christmas Art Camp! For more information, email mburnett@vhal.org.

Cost: $95 per camper
Ages: Students, kindergarten – 5th Grade

 

Pickleball

Pickleball combines the elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It was created for all ages and skill levels, and is played using paddles to volley a plastic ball with holes (similar to a wiffleball), on a badminton size court with a modified tennis net.
– All levels and ages of players are welcome.
– No experience necessary; clinicians/instructors will be on-site to teach you the game.
– Players will be matched based on skill level.
– Equipment is available for check out at the Rec Center.

Park in front of the school and enter through the middle set of doors, next to the ramp.
– Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30-9pm; Wednesdays & Fridays, 10am-12:30pm; and Saturdays, 9am-noon

– Non-residents: $10

Jazzercise  

Jazzercise combines dance, strength and resistance training with popular music for a full-body workout.

November 2022 – Secret Santa. Be a secret Santa for a veteran this holiday season! During the month of November, we are collecting items for goodie bags to give to veterans in need. Our goal is to fill 25 bags! You can drop off your donations at any senior event in November.

Requested items for each bag:
2 cans of black-eyed peas
1lb bags of rice (white or brown)
1 can of greens
1 box of jiffy cornbread
1 cake mix
1 can of frosting

Monday Night Dance. Dogwood Room (Vestavia Hills Rec Center, 1973 Merryvale Road). Every Monday, 6-9pm.

Thursday, November 3 – Road Trip! Our November Road Trip will be to the Wind Creek Casino in Wetumpka, AL! Transportation is provided. Meet at the Aquatic Complex at 7:30am and we will return by 5pm! To reserve your spot, call 205.978.0166.

November 10, 2022 – Salute to Veterans. Mayor Ashley Curry and the City of Vestavia Hills are honored to present “Salute to Veterans” on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 2pm at the new Vestavia Hills Civic Center (1090 Montgomery Highway). This annual Veterans Day celebration features patriotic-themed entertainment followed by a reception honoring all branches of service. This year’s keynote speaker is Rear Admiral W. Kent Davis, USN, (Retired). Mr. Davis is an accomplished leader with more than 30 years of senior communication, management, legal and military experience, retiring in 2016 as Vice Chief of Information for the Navy at the rank of Rear Admiral (Lower Half). He currently serves as the State Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.

Monday, November 14 – Senior Luncheon. Join us for a delicious lunch at 11:30am with guest speaker James Spann! Only $8 per person! Bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon of fun and entertainment at the new Vestavia Hills Civic Center. Sponsored by Right at Home. For reservations, contact Ms. Ruby at 205.822.8788.

Thursday, November 17 – Lunch Bunch. The next Lunch Bunch is at Davenport’s Pizza Palace at Vestavia Hills City Center for fun and food! Meet at Vestavia Hills Aquatic Complex at 10:45am. Transportation provided; attendees are responsible for meal purchase. Reservations required – 205.978.0166.

Friday, November 18 – Magical Marketplace. Join us at Magical Marketplace at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church (2061 Kentucky Avenue, 35216) for some early holiday shopping! If you live near the church, meet us there at 9am. We will also have a bus leaving from New Merkel House at 8:45am for those in the Cahaba Heights area.

Board Openings – Parks and Recreation Board; Library Board of Trustees. The Vestavia Hills City Council is currently accepting applications for an upcoming vacancy on the Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation Board and the Vestavia Hills Library Board. The Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation Board is a 5-year appointment, and the Vestavia Hills Library Board is a 4-year appointment. Deadline for application is 5pm, Monday, November 14, 2022. Applicants will be announced at that Council meeting and personal interviews will be scheduled for all applicants. The appointment will be announced at the November 28, 2022 Council meeting.
